Interrogation- painting analysis

The painting “Interrogation” made by Ali Banisadr is very appealing. I was drawn to it because from a distance, it kind of looks like a mess, as most abstract paintings do. The reality is, when you look closer into the painting, it is so much more than that.

In this painting, one could see just lines and dots. These lines and dots then begin to form shapes and begin to almost trick your mind into seeing objects. These objects transform and morph into characters as you look closer into the image. These lines start to create a story.

The vast variety of events happening in this painting is far too much to describe. You can see that possibly hundreds of scenarios are being performed while bringing the entire piece together one by one. The colors really draw the whole art piece together as a whole. Emotions are proclaimed by the colors and the actions taken on by the not so easily seen morphed characters.

This particular painting brings me a feeling of anxiety. There is personally too much going on in the painting to depict a specific event. The actions of the characters are thrown everywhere and do not allow me to discover the true meaning of the artwork. One of the main features that drew me to this painting is the vast variety of colors. Rather than being in black and white, this painting brought new meaning to using the “color spectrum”. The changes between light and dark blues, to yellows and reds, truly shows the emotions of the artist Ali Banisadr and how it felt to see the Iraq war.
