While walking around campus going from class to class, I just so happened to notice a sculpture that caught my eye. The patina on the sculpture and the setting just seemed like the perfect subject to write about. This beautiful sculpture is found in the Florida Southwestern State College Mary Joe Sanders Garden of Inspiration.

The sculpture is called the “Romeo and Juliet” in reference to one of the most famous reads throughout the country today. Dr. Richard H. and Mrs. Julia Rush donated this sculpture to the Florida Southwestern State College Lee County Campus. It was made by sculptor Milton Hebald. This piece of art was significant and started the process of The Rush family of providing funding for academic events such as the student art show, as well as, scholarships. The Rauschenburg Gallery is the main event you will see before you make it to the sculpture.
The subject of the sculpture is the idea of love. It is set in a beautiful spot on the Florida Southwestern campus. It is in a beautiful garden next to the koi pond which is also beautiful to sit around. It is in a very whimsical place which embraces the emotions of the setting and captures the love Romeo and Juliet had for each other.

The sculpture is between the Barbara Mann Performing Arts Hall and the theatre and library building. It is sat in a place where there is an appreciation of art and literature. This full-round sculpture is of two free-flowing human figures. The figures of Romeo and Juliet are quite large which helps them stick out among the trees. Therefore, this sculpture cannot be missed by passing staff, students and visitors.
