Architecture is very interesting, since becoming a homeowner I never truly understand what goes into it. Then you start house hunting. Not only is it the location that matter, but it’s also more of what is inside. Going through what feels like hundreds of homes you pick out the ones that might have columns out front to give it a colonial feel or the crown molding or the most modern hardware. After you sort through that you must find a floor plan, which we could go forever on but let me explain a little about my humble abode.
My house is very open to what you initially see. It is a single-family home. You walk in and you see a foyer area and the main living space and secondary living space with an open kitchen. They are very bright colors with lots of windows that make it feel nice and airy and open.
You walk to one side of the house that is in the small area, it feels cramped. You have two bedrooms in a narrow hallway and in between are a bathroom and a laundry room, everything feels small and in general are small. Then on the other side of the house, you have another room which is much larger, this is the master suite, but it is closed off from the rest of the house. There is a door and then a long hallway leading into the actual room itself. The master suite itself is very open.
Another interior is my boyfriends’ grandparents’ house. We visit there quite regularly. It is very open and welcoming. Everything is open, the kitchen and the dining room and living room are all home and then a big window and door that opens out to the pool. Everything feels connected. The rooms are spread out throughout the house, which I like because it is more interesting and adventurous. It does not feel closed off. The spaced out rooms make it feel open and modern and not cramped like my home does.
I love both homes because they serve different purposes. My home while I love being in the open living space and kitchen it makes me comfortable but I can also feel very overwhelmed. It is where I spend time doing homework and cleaning that can be stressful and I think that also leads to it being more closed off. The other home is more relaxing and you feel the relaxing environment as soon as you step in. Openness has a sense of ease. I can relax and play games and go swimming and enjoy more of my time at this home.
