The first film is called Moonlight. It is a coming of age film where it is centered around one character. You see him growing from a child to his adolescence to adulthood. He goes by many names by figuring out who his identity is and he starts off with little and then goes to Chiron on and then goes to black. It shows how much he struggles within his sexuality and identity this comes from earlier in his life when he was abused. Moonlight is a film about masculinity, the wounds and crises of which are the same for all sexualities, but conditioned by the background weather of race and class. It’s a very striking film that has your emotions all over the place. Throughout the film you are filled with so many emotions of hurt, and sadness but also happiness. It’s a film that is so prevalent in today’s society where we still struggle with these issues. Especially about the cops, you see it all over the news. But in today’s society it takes children extra long to figure out their own identity because with social media that tells us who we should be and then our parents want something else and it causes us to be confused and go through these situations and not know fully who we are or who we want to be. We even still have issues with race so throwing that all together into one character to figure out their identity but their race and their sexuality is one toll on someone that you see an amazing journey through in this film.
